New art & investing in myself

Hey there,

This week I’ll be sharing my short and sweet weekly review with you where I reflect on my accomplishments, celebrate myself, and share my focus for the upcoming week.

What I accomplished last week

As usual I created a few new designs. They followed a bit of a “feminine coquette” Valentine’s theme. They’re a little on the simple side composition-wise because I really wanted to explore a few more complex illustrations with the cakes and tea cups. Here’s a look—

Not my usual style of design, but they were a fun experiment!

What I’m celebrating

I made some major investments in my business and personal development this week. I always find this hard to do. It’s easy for me to believe and invest in others but I struggle doing the same for myself. Though, I’m starting to see how silly that is! I have the most control over my own actions and results, so of course I should invest more in myself. I’m really proud of myself for feeling a little scared and going for it anyway, and I’m sure my future self will thank me.

What I’m focusing on next week

My number one goal for next week is, you can probably guess, more creating! I’d like to create 3-5 new designs with a focus on some vintage, historical-inspired themes. I haven’t explored that style in a while and I’ve been feeling called back to it.

Unrelated to art, I’m planning to going skiing for a day next week! You may or may not be familiar with my skiing journey over the past few years. I started learning two years ago and have a love-terrified relationship with it. It’s one of the only things I’ve tried that scares me to my very core, but I’m slowly getting over the mental hurdles and improving! I really love skiing as a fun way to push myself outside of my comfort zone without any pressure or expectations.

My first ski day of the year is the most nerve-racking because I’m afraid I’ve forgotten everything over the past year, but I usually get back into it just fine. I’ll let you know how it goes!

Until next week,

~Rachel

P.S., I really enjoy sharing these casual journal-like letters with you and am wanting to continue it, but let me know what you think of the format and if there’s anything else you’d like to hear from me!
